Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That we feel it to be not more an act of duty than
of profound satisfaction, to express for ourselves,
and in behalf of the people whose Representatives
we are,our heartfelt thanks to each and all of
those gallant defenders of the Constitution and
Laws of the United States, by land and sea, who
have recently, by their unsurpassed heroism, aug-
mented the glory of American citizenship, and
through the sublime lessons of victories won by
fortitude and courage, above all praise, have as-
sured us, beyond peradventure, that our Govern -
ment is established in the hearts of the masses,
securely resting upon the solid fouqdations of vir-
tue and patriotism.
