RESOLUTIONS.
No. 6.

Assented to
March 10, 1862.
|
Resolved by the Senate and House of Delegates of
Maryland, That the State of Maryland hereby
declares its intention to assume and pay its quota
of the Direct Tax imposed by the Act of Congress
of August sixth, eighteen hundred and sixty-one;
and the Governor is requested to communicate
this resolution to the Secretary of the Treasury of
the United States.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Delegates,
' That the Governor be and he is hereby authorized
to appoint fifteen Commissioners, (to serve without
compensation,) any five of whom shall be com-
petent to act, whose duty it shall be to select such
objects as will exhibit the skill, productions and
resources of Maryland, at the International Ex-
hibition of Works of Arts and Industry, to be
held in London, in eighteen hundred and sixty-
two.

Resolved, That the thanks of the Legislature
of Maryland are due, and hereby tendered to
Lieutenant John H. Russell, a native of Mont-
gomery county, in this State, for his gallantry
and daring in running into Pensacola Harbor,
directly under the guns of the enemy, and firing
and destroying the Rebel Pirate Judith ; and that
