CHAPTER 277.

Passed March
8, 1862.

AN ACT to repeal sections two hundred and fifty-
six, two hundred and sixty-two, two hundred
and seventy-three and two hundred and seventy-
six, of Article twenty-one of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws, relating to Public Schools in
Washington county.

Substitute.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That sections two hundred and fifty-
six, two hundred and fifty-seven, two hundred and
sixty-two, two hundred and seventy-three and two
hundred and seventy-six, of Article twenty-one
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington
county, be and the same are hereby repealed, and
that the following be enacted in lieu thereof, as a
substitute for section two hundred and fifty-six :

Annual levy
for support of
schools.

256. A tax which in addition to the Schoofcfund
of Washington county, derived from other sources,
may be necessary and sufficient to sustain the pub-
lic Schools thereof nine months in each year, shall
be levied annually by the county Commissioners,
on the assessable property of said county, to be
collected as other taxes are, and paid over to the
Board of School Commissioners at their order.

Substitute.

Sec. 2. That the following be enacted in lieu of
and as a substitute for section two hundred and
sixty-two :

tees.

262. The legal voters of each School District,
"shall assemble annually at the School House of the
District, on such day as the School Commiss.ion-
ers shall direct, and elect from the inhabitants
thereof three discreet persons, who shall constitute
a Board of Trustees for said School, and shall
serve for one year from the date of their election,
and until their successors are elected, provided at
least fifteen days previous notice in writing, shall
be set up in at least three of the most public places
in said District, specifying the time and place of
such election.

Substitute.

Sec. 3. That the following be enacted in lieu of
and as a substitute for section two hundred and
seventy-three :
