operation ; and the scholarships shall be regarded
as transferred to the persons mentioned in the first
section of this act, whenever the number shall be
obtained and the debts by them paid off or as-
sumed, and for the purposes therein expressed.

Sec. 15. And be it enacted, That the acceptance
or adoption of this act by the scholarship holders
as in the preceding section provided shall be certi-
fied to the Clerk of the Court of Appeals of this
State, under the seal of said corporation, and
within one month after such acceptance or adop-
tion.

CHAPTER 273.

 

AN ACT to incorporate the Elkridge Landing
Bridge Company.

Passed March
10, 1862.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That James C. Adams, William
Rowles, Thomas Newton, Septimus Hopkins,
James Rowles, J. S. S. Linthicum, and Samuel
Sutton, and suoh others as may be associated with
them, and their successors, are hereby incorpor-
ated and made a body politic with authority to
build, establish, and keep in repair a bridge over
the Patapsco river at or nea'r the village of Elk-
ridge Landing, in Howard county to such point
on the north side of said river, in Baltimore coun-
ty, as the said Company may select, which bridge
shall be of the width of not less than sixteen feet,
and shall be made of good and substantial mate-
rials with suitable abutments and secure railings
on each side thereof.

Incorporated,
&c.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That upon the comple-
tion of said Bridge the, said Company shall keep
the said Bridge as a toll Bridge, with proper gates
and bars to secure the same, and to ask, demand,
and receive as toll, for passage of the said Bridge,
the following sums of money, to wit : for every horse
and rider, three cents; for every cart, wagon or
