AN ACT to continue the charter of the Pipe Creek
Benevolent Society.
|

7, 1862.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That an act entitled, An act to in-
corporate the Pipe Creek Benevolent Society, pass-
ed December session eighteen hundred and forty-
three, and the supplements thereto passed Decem-
ber sessions eighteen hundred and forty-four and
eighteen hundred and forty-nine, be and the same
are hereby continued in force until the first day of
January eighteen hundred and ninety, and to the
end of the next session of the General Assembly

thereafter; the Legislature hereby reserving the
right to alter, amend or repeal the charter hereby
extended at pleasure.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted , That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 21.

AN ACT to ratify an amendment to the Constitu-
tion of the United States of America, proposed
by Congress, to the Legislatures of the several
States.
|

10, 1862.
|
WHEREAS, It is provided by the fifth Article of the
Constitution of the United States of America
that Congress, whenever two-thirds of both
houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose
amendments to the said Constitution, or on the
application of the Legislature of two-thirds of
the several States, shall call a Convention for
proposing amendments, which in either case
shall be valid, to all intents and purposes, as
part of the said Constitution, when ratified by
the Legislatures of three-fourths of the several
States or by Conventions in three-fourths thereof
as the one or the other modes of ratification may
