lines of the lands of Miller and Smith, and to run
first along said lines, then near or upon the border
lines of the land of Bayer, Pickett and Warner,
to Shafersville, then near or upon the border lines
of the lands of Hardy, Warner and Welsh, then
though the lands of Warfield, Murray and Mulli-
nix to the Patuxent river, then near or upon the
border lines of Clagett and Etchison to said Parrs-
ville road.

Sec. 2. Be it enacted, That the necessary ex-
penses of opening said road in each county may
be assessed by the Commissioners of that county.

Assessment.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 163.

 

AN ACT to compensate Michael H; Haller and
others for services rendered by order of the
Governor.

Passed March
8, 1862.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Comptroller be and he is
hereby directed to issue his warrant upon the Trea-
surer to pay Michael H. Haller, late Sheriff of
Frederick county, or order, one hundred thirty-
nine dollars, for the pay of men summoned by
him, by order of the Governor, to patrol the county
and prevent the escape of slaves ; also, to pay
Joseph E. Bateman, late Sheriff of Harford coun-
ty, or order, five hundred and eleven dollars for
similar purposes by the same authority ; also, to
pay Henry R. Atkinson, late Sheriff of Allegany
county, or order, four hundred fifty-nine dollars
for similar purposes by the same authority ; also,
to pay Henry R. Atkinson, or order, one hundred
seventy-six dollars, for pay of Cumberland Conti-
nentals, under the same order ; and James Old-
ham, late Sheriff of Cecil county, for services of
men engaged, by order of the Governor, to prevent
the escape of slaves, two hundred dollars ; also, to
