CHAPTER 4.

AN ACT granting the assent of the Legislature
to a bequest of a legacy made in the last will
and testament of Jacob Landis, late of Carroll
county, deceased, " to the congregation of the
Church of the Ascension, in Westminster, Car-
roll county, Maryland," and "to the vestry,
building committee, or members of the new
Episcopal church or chapel recently built in
Uniontown, in Carroll county."

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, Jacob Landis, late of Carroll county,
deceased, by his last will and testament, gave and
bequeathed to the congregation of the Church of
the Ascension, in Westminster, Carroll county,
Maryland, six hundred dollars, to constitute a
fund in part or whole for the purpose of purchas-
ing a parsonage house for said church in or near
the town of Westminster aforesaid, and to be ap-
plied, together with all interest accrued, if any,
to that purpose, by a majority of a full vestry
regularly appointed according to the rules of the

Proviso.
|
Protestant Episcopal church, whenever said vestry
shall think proper to do so; provided, this bequest,
with interest accrued, shall be sufficient of itself
or with other contributions, in amount, to fully
pay for such parsonage when purchased, so that
no debt may remain thereon, upon which condition
this bequest is made; and also in and by said last
will and testament " gave and bequeathed to the
vestry, building committee or members, as the
case may be, of the new Episcopal church or chap-
el, recently built iu Uniontown, in Carroll county,
two hundred dollars, to be applied to indebtedness,
if there be any, if not, to the improvement of the
church lot or grounds;" Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the assent of the Legislature
be and is hereby given to carry into effect the be-
quest in the last will and testament of Jacob Lan-
dis, late of Carroll county, deceased, in favor of
the congregation of the Church of the Ascension,
in Westminster, Carroll county, Maryland, and of
