AN ACT to provide for the payment of the claims
of Peregrine Gorsuch and Francis Gallagher,
and representatives of George Sherwood, deceas-
ed, Assistant Clerks in the office of the Clerk of
the Superior Court of Baltimore city, under the
administration thereof by Edward Dowling,
late Chief Clerk.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Comptroller of the Trea-
sury, be and he is hereby authorized and empow-
ered to examine and adjust the compensation ac-
counts of Peregrine Gorsuch and Francis Galla-
gher and George W. Sherwood, assistant Clerks,
in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of
Baltimore city, during the administration of the
said office by Edward Dowling, late Clerk thereof,
and to order and direct the said claims when so
adjusted, to be paid by George E. Sangston, late
Chief Clerk, or by Alfred Mace, the present Clerk
of said Court, out of any surplus funds accrued or
accruing in said office, and which would otherwise

be payable into the Treasury for the use of the
State; provided, that the allowance to the said
Peregrine Gorsuch, shall not exceed the sum of
eleven hundred and twenty-five dollars; and that
the allowance to the said Francis Gallagher, shall
not exceed the sum of seven hundred and fifty
dollars; and provided, the amount paid to the re-
presentatives of the said Sherwood, who is now
deceased, shall not exceed the sum of six hundred
dollars.

Sec. 9. And be it enacted, That this act .go into
effect from the day of the passage thereof.
