LAWS OF MARYLAND.

sufficient and suitable buildings, to purchase or
procure and hold the proper furniture, books and
apparatus, to employ suitable teachers, agents and
servants; and generally, to do any act or thing
necessary or proper to carry into effect or promote
the lawful design and object of this corporation.

Who may be-
come members

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That every; man of
irreproachable character, of the age of twenty-one
years, a citizen of the United States, or who has
in legal form declared his intention to become a
citizen, may become a member of the Union under
the conditions and subject to the rules prescribed
in the constitution and by-laws; and the Union in
general assembly shall be competent to prescribe
the Board of Officers and their duties, and affix
such limits to their power, to adopt and put in
operation, alter or abolish such constitution, by-
laws, rules and. regulations as to the member's

shall seem most conducive to the interests of the
Union; provided, the same be not contrary to the
Constitution of this State or of the United States.

Liabilities.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That all the property
and estate of the corporation shall be held bound
and answerable for all contracts and engagements
made, and for all liabilities incurred by said cor-
poration and its authorized agents; but the Union
shall not be dissolved as long as seven members
remain. Should the number be reduced to less
than seven, they shall transfer the whole property
of the Union to a General German Hospital, or
apply the same to the foundation of such a hos-
pital in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, and no
division of the property shall ever take place.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That nothing herein
contained shall be so construed as to authorize or
empower said corporation to issue any note, cer-
tificate, token or evidence of debt, to be used as
currency.

Reservation.

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That the General
Assembly reserves the right to modify, amend or
repeal this act at any time.

In force.

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from its passage.
