AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore to collect and
receive from the property holders on both, sides
of North avenue, as well in Baltimore county as
in the city of Baltimore, the sums severally
assessed to them for the grading of said avenue.

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, under an act of the General Assembly
of Maryland , passed March eighth , eighteen hundred
and fifty-six, chapter one hundred and sixty-four,
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore were
authorized, upon certain conditions therein stated,
to have North avenue, from Pennsylvania avenue
to the Falls turnpike road, graded or paved, or
both graded and paved; and, whereas, by an act of
this General Assembly, passed February nineteen,
eighteen hundred and sixty-four, the said Mayor
and City Council are directed to pay the outstand-
ing claims of the contractors with interest from the
time the said work was completed; and, whereas,
the work was done in compliance with the petition
of what professed to be a majority of the legal
owners of the property fronting on said avenue.

Authorized
to collect.
|
SECTION 1. Now, therefore, be it enacted by the
General Assembly cf Maryland, That the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore be and they are hereby
authorized and empowered to collect from the several
owners of the property fronting on both sides of
North avenue the sums of money hereto fore assessed
on the property to them belonging, as ascertained
the by warrant of the City Commissioner, dated
November eighteenth, eighteen hundred and fifty-
seven, with interest from said date.

Entitled to
discount.
|
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That all property
owners who shall come forward within twelve (12)
months of the passage of this act and make a
settlement in compliance with the first section of
this act shall, on the face of all such bills, be
entitled to and receive a discount of fifty (50) per
centum on said bills and interest; and all persons
who have heretofore paid their assessment, or any
