CHAPTER 271.

 

AN ACT to incorporate the Great Savage Tim-
ber Company of Allegany county.

8, 1864.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That William Schley, Cadwallader
Ringgold, Samuel Ringgold Schley, and such
other persons as may hereafter become associated
with them in the manner hereinafter mentioned,
shall be and they are hereby constituted a body
politic and corporate, by the name and title of
"The Great Savage Timber Company of Allegany
county," and by that name shall sue and be sued,
make contracts, and have all the powers, faculties,
rights and franchises necessary, proper or conve-
nient for the accomplishment of the ends and ob-
jects of its incorporation, as well as all other pow-
ers, general and incidental, belonging or apper-
taining to its character and nature as a corporate
body.

Incorporated.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock
of said company shall be two hundred and fifty
thousand dollars, divided into ten thousand shares
of the par value of twenty-five dollars each share,
and for the purpose of obtaining subscriptions to
said capital stock, books of subscription shall be
opened, under the superintendence and direction of
any one or more of the said persons named in the
first section of this act, at such time or times, and
at such place or places, as said person or persons
shall deem best, notice being previously given of
the time and place appointed by advertisement,
at least once in every week for four successive
weeks in one of the newspapers of Baltimore city,
and also in one of the newspapers of the city of
Cumberland; and as soon, as one thousand shares
shall have been subscribed, the said company
shall be authorized and empowered to act as a
corporate body, and payment for all or any of said
subscriptions may be made in money or in land,
as may be agreed on at the time of said subscrip-
tion, between the person or persons who may re-
ceive said subscription, and the persons respec-
tively who may subscribe as aforesaid for stock;
and in case said company shall proceed to act as a
