CHAPTER 236.

 

AN ACT to add an additional section to the
fourth Article gf Public Local Laws, relating to
the deputies of the Sheriff of Baltimore City.

Passed Mar.
10, 1864,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, as follows,: The Sheriff of Baltimore
city shall be allowed two dollars a day for every
day, he shall attend, either in person or by deputy;
in the Superior, Court for Baltimore city, and in the
Court of Common Pleas and in the Criminal Court
of Baltimore, to be paid to him as the other ex-
penses in said court are now paid.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 237.

 

AN ACT entitled, an act to purchase and enclose
a part of the battle field at Antietam for the
purposes of a State and National Cemetery.

Passed Mar.
10, 1864.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the sum of five thousand dol-
lars be and is hereby placed in the hands of the
Governor to be used for the purchase and enclosure
of a part of the battle field at Antietam, not ex-
ceeding ten acres, at one hundred dollars per acre,
for the purposes of a State and National Cemetery.

and he is hereby authorized to appoint an agent
in behalf of the State, whose duty it shall be to
act jointly with the agent appointed by the State
of New York and other States, in superintending
the work of enclosing the Antietam Cemetery, and
also of exhuming the bodies of deceased soldiers of
Maryland and New York and of other States, if
