CHAPTER 233.

 

AN ACT for the' relief of the securities of Wil-
liam H. Crawford, late Collector of Howard
county.

Passed Mar.
9, 1864.

WHEREAS, it appears that in the year of eighteen
hundred and forty-nine the Governor of the State
of Maryland did release and remit, on behalf of
the sureties of William H. Crawford, Collector of
State Taxes for the years eighteen hundred and
forty-five and eighteen hundred and forty-six, all
the interest due to the State by said Crawford, as
Collector aforesaid, upon the payment of the prin-
cipal and costs, and attorney's fees and commis-
sions, which was done; therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the sureties of said Crawford
be and they are hereby released from the payment
of all interest for or on account of said Crawford,
as Collector, as aforesaid, and the Comptroller of
the Treasury is hereby directed to credit all sums
of money heretofore paid by said securities on ac-
count of said Crawford to the principal of said
claim, except so much as will enable him to bal-
ance the accounts of said Crawford on the books of
the Treasury.

Released.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That upon the
payment of all costs, attorney's fees and commis-
sions by said securities said Crawford, the Comp-
troller is hereby authorized and directed to give an
order to enter satisfied the suits now pending in
the Circuit Court of Howard county against Said
Crawford and his sureties.

take effect from its passage.
