Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect from the day of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal section one hundred and twen-
ty-four of Article twenty-one of the Public Local
Laws relating to the town of Hagerstown, in
Washington county, and to re-enact the same,
with an amendment authorizing the Mayor and
Council to light up the streets of said town.

Repealed.
|
SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That section one hundred and twen-
ty-four of Article twenty-one of the Public Local
Laws be and the same is hereby repealied, and the
following enacted in lieu thereof: The Mayor and
Council may direct and provide for leveling and
paving the streets, alleys, footways and lanes in
said town, or any of them; may grade -the same
and direct repairs upoa them when they think
proper; may cause bridges or culverts to be made
over the waters or hollows; may contract with the
citizens of the town for paving the streets, alleys
and lanes in such manner as they may by ordi-
nance direct; may erect lamps in any of the streets
of said town; cause the same to be lighted at the
expense of the town; may levy upon the taxable
property in said town an amount sufficient to de-
fray the expenses attending the same, which taxes
may be collected as other taxes are provided for
in section one hundred and thirty-six of this Ar-
ticle.
