AN ACT relating to the tolls granted to Balti-
more and Harford Turnpike Compiany, eh'titled
a farther supplement to the Act of Assembly of
eighteen hundred and fifteen, chapter forty-
eight incorporating the Baltimore and Harford
Turnpike Company.

WHEREAS, Doubts are entertained and differences
of opinion exist as to the correct construction of
the sixteenth section of the Act of Assembly of
eighteen hundred and twelve, chapter seventy-
eight, by which the tolls on the Baltimore and
Harford turnpike are regulated; and whereas,
much contention has arisen, and litigation may be
produced in consequence thereof; therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the tolls to be demanded of
and paid by the person or persons using the said
Baltimore and Harford turnpike road are and shall
be as follows, namely: for every space of ten miles
of the said road, the several and respective sums
granted by and mentioned in the aforesaid six-
teenth section of the Act of Assembly of eighteen
hundred and twelve, chapter seventy-eight, and
so in proportion for any less distance used; that
is, for one mile of the said road used, one-tenth of
the respective sums before mentioned shall be de-

manded and paid, and so in proportion to the dis-
tance used; provided, that every fractional part of
a mile used, which is less than one-half, shall be
charged and paid as one half mile, and every frac-
tional part used which shall be more than one half
mile and less than one mile, shall be charged and
paid as one mile.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
