this charter at its pleasure, and that this act shall
take effect from; the date of its passage.

AN ACT to incorporate the Sassafras River and
Baltimore Steam Navigation Company.

WHEREAS, It has been represented to the Gen-
eral Assembly that the incorporating of a steam
passenger and freight company, having for its ob-
ject the insuring of a speedy and safe conveyance
of passengers, and of the various products of the
farmer, merchant, mechanic and manufacturer to
and from market, would greatly promote the con-
venience of the people and benefit the agricultural
and other interest, enhance the value of real estate
and tend to develop the agricultural resources of
the State; and it being represented to the General
Assembly that a number of persons are willing to
unite their funds for the purpose of forming a com-
pany to effectuate these objects; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That George Vickers, David C.
Blackiston, Isaac Parsons, John Gale, Abel J.
Regse, Joseph W. Webb, of Kent county, and J.
Thomas Budd, Thomas V. Ward, Cecil county,
and all and every; person who may become sub-
scribers or stockholders according to the mode
hereinafter prescribed, their successors and assigns,
shall be and they are hereby incorporated by the
name of the Sassafras River and Baltimore Steam
Navigation Company, for the purpose and with
the privileges and immunities herein described,
defined and granted, and by that name shall be a
body politic and corporate, in fact and in law, and
may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in
all courts of justice or elsewhere, and the said
company shall have power and authority, at any
time after the passage of this act, to purchase,
