mission to or for any slave or slaves belonging to,
and the property of, their deceased testator, or in--
testate, or ward, in all cases where such slave or
slaves shall have been enlisted in the military ser-
vice of the United States, to enable said executor,
administrator or guardian to recover compensation
for such slave or slaves, and all deeds of manu-
mission so executed shall be valid and effectual to
all intents and purposes to confer freedom upon
such slave or slaves.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 106.

 

AN ACT to amend the fourth Article of Public
Local Laws, relating to Jurors, in the city of
Baltimore.

Passed Mar.
2, 1864.

SECTION 1 . Be it enacted Ity the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the six hundred and fourth
section of the fourth Article of Public Local Laws,
relating to the drawing of Grand Juries in Balti-
more city, be and the same is hereby repealed,
and the following is hereby substituted in lieu
thereof: The Sheriff of Baltimore city shall, be-
fore each term of the Criminal Court of Baltimore,
summon twenty-three persons from the list pre-
pared by the Judges, to serve as Grand Jurors for
the ensuing term of said Court.

Repealed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the six hundred
and fifth section of the said Article relating to the
drawing of the Jurors for the Superior Court of
Baltimore, be and the same is hereby repealed,
and the following substituted in lieu thereof: The
twenty-five names first in order on the said list,
shall constitute the Jurors for the Superior Court
for Baltimore city for the three weeks to ensue
after the commencement of the next term of the
said Court.
