CHAPTER 102.

 

AN ACT to incorporate "The Trustees of the
Samuel Ready Asylum for Female Orphans."

Passed Feb.
26, 1864.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of aryland , That Samuel Ready, James Hooper,
Jr., E. Glenn Ferine, Samuel Kirby, Joseph Rey-
nolds, Francis T. King and Edward S. Lamdin,
and their successors, be and they are hereby incor-
porated and made and constituted a body politic
and corporate by the name and style of "The
Trustees of the Samuel Ready Asylum for Female
Orphans," and by that name, style and title shall
have perpetual succession, and shall be able and
capable in law to acquire property, real, personal
and mixed, by gift, devise or purchase, and to
hold, lease, sell, dispose of and convey the same,
and to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
answer and be answered, defend and be defended,
in any court of law or equity, or other place what-
soever, and to have and use a common seal, and
the same to break, alter and renew at pleasure ;
and to receive and to make all deeds, leases, trans-
fers, contracts, covenants, conveyances and grants
whatsoever, and generally to do every other act
and thing necessary to carry into effect the provi-
sions of this act, and to promote the object and
design of said corporation.

Incorporated.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the object and
design of the said corporation is hereby declared
to be the founding and maintaining, withiu the
State of Maryland, of an asylum for female orphans
between the ages of five and thirteen years, the
entire management of which shall be vested in said
Trustees or corporation; and all estates, real, per-
sonal and mixed of every kind, which may be
given, devised or bequeathed to the said Trustees
or corporation, as well as the said corporation,
shall be and they are hereby declared to be en-
tirely released, discharged and forever exempted
from any tax whatever on collateral inheritances,
distributive shares and legacies, and that no part
of such estate or property aforesaid shall, in any
manner, be liable for the payment of any such tax
or duty as aforesaid.
