Preamble.

WHEREAS, Many of the families of soldiers from
the State of Maryland that now are or have been
in the service of the United States, are in pressing
want and necessity; and whereas, it seems emi-
nently right and proper that those whose homes
are defended shall care for and aid the families of
those who defend them; and whereas, the Rev.
John N. McJilton, Dr. C. C. Cox, Dr. George W.
Wayson, Dr. George W. Fay, S. F. Streeter,
William Daniel, Judge William Alexander, W.
D. Miller, Geo. Gildersleve, J. B. Seidenstricker,
Rev. Isaac P. Cook, John Dukehart, John H. Ing,
and others, have agreed to associate themselves
together for the purpose of providing for the relief
of these families, present and prospective, and for
the purpose, also, of accumulating a fund sufficient
to provide and sustain a permanent home for the
disabled soldiers from this State; now, therefore.
