CHAPTER 87.

Fasged Jan.
27, 1864.

AN ACT entitled an act to repeal section one hun-
dred and thirty-four and section one hundred
and thirty-five of Article eight of the Code of
Public Local Laws relating to free negroes in
Cecil county.

Code amend-
ed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That section one hundred and
thirty-four and section one hundred and thirty-five
of Article eight of the Code of Public Local Laws
relating to free negroes in Cecil county be and the
same are hereby repealed.

In force.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

 

CHAPTER 88.

15, 1864.

AN ACT to incorporate the Maryland Soldiers'
Relief Association.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Many of the families of soldiers from
the State of Maryland that now are or have been
in the service of the United States, are in pressing
want and necessity; and whereas, it seems emi-
nently right and proper that those whose homes
are defended shall care for and aid the families of
those who defend them; and whereas, the Rev.
John N. McJilton, Dr. C. C. Cox, Dr. George W.
Wayson, Dr. George W. Fay, S. F. Streeter,
William Daniel, Judge William Alexander, W.
D. Miller, Geo. Gildersleve, J. B. Seidenstricker,
Rev. Isaac P. Cook, John Dukehart, John H. Ing,
and others, have agreed to associate themselves
together for the purpose of providing for the relief
of these families, present and prospective, and for
the purpose, also, of accumulating a fund sufficient
to provide and sustain a permanent home for the
disabled soldiers from this State; now, therefore.
