CHAPTER 65.

 

AN ACT to incorporate the Oakland Coal and
Iron Mining and Manufacturing Company of
Allegany County.

20, 1865.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John M. Amstrong, Jeremiah
L. Townshend and Singleton Townshend Arm-
strong, of Allegany county, and such other per-
sons as may be associated with them hereafter in
manner herein provided, shall be and they are
hereby incorporated and made a body politic and
corporate by the name of the Oakland Coal and
Iron Mining and Manufacturing Company of Al-
legany County, and by that name shall have suc-
cession, and be able and capable to sue and be
sued, to plead and be impleaded, in any court of
law and equity, and may have, and use a common
seal, and the same to alter and renew at pleasure,
and the said company shall have all the, powers,
privileges and rights necessary for carrying on the
manufacture of iron, fire brick and the mining of
coal and for transporting to market the produce of
their mines, lands and manufactories, and shall
also have power to lease or purchase mines, lands
and furnaces, with their appurtenances, and to
hold all such property, real, personal and mixed,

as they may require for the purpose aforesaid; pro-
vided, that the said company shall at no time own
more than five thousand acres of land, and said
company shall have, power for the purpose afore-
said, to make such by-laws, rules and regulations
as may be necessary ; provided, they be, not repug-
nant to any law of this State or of the United
States.

Provisos.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That for the purpose
of enabling said company to transport the produce
of their mines to market, the said corporation and
the President and Directors thereof shall be and
are respectively invested with all and singular the
rights, profits, powers, privileges, authorized im-
munities and advantages, for the surveying, loca-
ting, establishing and constructing a railroad or
roads with the necessary appurtenances from their
mines or works to connect at a convenient point or
