CHAPTER 53.

 

AN ACT to ratify and confirm and make valid
the action of the Commissioners of Somerset
county, Worcester county and Talbot county,
in borrowing money and pledging the faith of
the counties for its payment, for the purpose of
relieving those counties from the draft or drafts
of the United States Government, under any of
the calls for men, made by the President of the
United States, to make valid the bonds issued
by said County Commissioners, and to authorize
them to levy a tax for the payment thereof.

20, 1865.

WHEREAS, the County Commissioners of Somer-
set county, Worcester county, and Talbot county,
in the months of October and November, eighteen
hundred and sixty-four, did use certain funds of
the said counties, and did borrow other moneys of
the citizens thereof, for which the bonds of said
Commissioners were issued, and the faith of the
county pledged for their payment, for the purpose
of raising money to relieve said counties from the
draft under the call of the President of the United
States for men of July, eighteen hundred and
sixty-four, by filling the quotas of said counties,
under said call, which moneys so raised were so
appropriated.

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the proceedings of said
County Commissioners of Somerset county, Wor-
cester county, and Talbot county, in issuing and
borrowing money for the objects aforesaid, and the
bonds issued by said County Commissioners, be
and the same are hereby made valid, and that said
County Commissioners and their successors in
office may and shall provide for the payment of
the interest on said bonds, and the payment of the
principal thereof, in such instalments and at such
times as they may adjudge, by the levy of such
additional tax upon the taxable property of the
county as they may deem necessary for the pur-
pose, and that to effect the objects aforesaid they
