CHAPTER 44.

AN ACT to repeal section first of an act passed at
the special session of the General Assembly, held
in Frederick, April the twenty-sixth, eighteen
hundred and sixty one, entitled an act to amend
the fourth article of the Code of Public Local
Laws, by repealing the six hundred and third
section thereof, relating to the mode of drawing
Jurors in and for the city of Baltimore, etc., and
to authorize the Clerks of the Courts of Balti-
more city to supervise the drawing of Jurors,
instead of the Judges of said courts.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That section one of said mentioned
act be and the same is hereby repealed, and the
following sections substituted therefor:

1. The said Judges having prepared the said ,
list, shall require the Clerks of the several Courts
of Baltimore city, or a majority of them, to meet in
such one of the court rooms of the said city, at such
time as they shall appoint, not less than ten days
before the beginning of the May term of the Supe-
rior Court of Baltimore city, and the names select-
ed by the said Judges shall be inscribed upon bal-
lots, which shall be of equal size, color and appear-
ance, and shall be closely folded, and shall be
placed in a box prepared for that purpose by the
Clerks themselves.

2. And the Sheriff of Baltimore city, or such of
his Deputies as he shall designate, shall attend be-
fore the said Clerks and it shall be the duty of the
said Sheriff, or his Deputy as aforesaid, in the pre-
sence of the said Clerks and such other persons as
may choose to attend in said court, to draw, one
by one, all the ballots contained, in the said box,
and, as the said ballots are drawn, the names ap-
pearing thereon, shall be duly recorded in the or-
der in which they shall be drawn by the said Clerks,
or under their personal direction and inspection, by
some person to be appointed by the Judges afore-
said.
