hoops on the chime, and three on the bilge; and
provided, also, that nothing contained in this law
shall apply to fish in kegs of less-than ten gallons.

Exportation.

305. The Inspector may require any cask to be
filled up by the owner or owners, and by him or
them, re-packed or re-pickled, and in all respects
completed in such manner as they shall direct, for
the purpose of having the same made fit for ex-
portation, any owner or person by him employed,
refusing or neglecting to comply herewith shall
forfeit and pay five dollars for each offence.

Fraudulent
packing.

306. If any herrings or other fish hereby re-
quired to be inspected, shall on examination there-
of by the Inspector, prove to be falsely packed,
that is to say, the fish in one part of the cask of
different or inferior quality from the other, or
packed with any improper or unfit substances, with
intent to defraud, the owner or agent, shall forfeit
and pay for each cask the sum of five dollars.

Penalty for
non-inspection

307. If any person shall export, or lade for ex-
portation, from the port of Baltimore, or shall sell
and deliver for exportation from the said port, any
shad or herring before the same shall have been
inspected and approved and branded and marked
according to law, such person shall forfeit and pay
for every cask thereof, so exported or laden or sold
and delivered, one dollar.

Wrongfully
marked.

308. If the Inspector shall place any mark or
brand on any barrel or cask, other than its condi-
tion requires, he shall forfeit an amount equal in
value to the barrel or cask thus wrongfully marked;

Proviso.

provided, that nothing contained in this section
shall hold such Inspector responsible for such for-
feiture for a longer time than one month after such
fish have been inspected.

Inspector re-
strained.

309. The inspector shall not purchase directly
or indirectly, any salted fish by him condemned,
or any other fish whatever, other than for his
family use, nor shall he directly or indirectly, be
concerned in making, rendering or furnishing any
cask or casks, for the purpose of packing, re-pack-
ing or curing any fish brought to, packed in or
exported from the city of Baltimore, nor shall he
be concerned in the cooperage of any cask, con-
taining fish that may be inspected in said city,
nor shall he sell or furnish any salt for the curing
