on conviction thereof, forfeit and pay a fine of not
less than one hundred nor more than five hundred
dollars, and shall be disqualified from holding of-
fice and voting.

Penalty for
false swearing.

Sec. 23. Be it enacted, That any person taking
the oath herein required and swearing falsely in
relation to matters connected therewith, shall, on
conviction thereof, be deemed guilty of perjury
and shall be sentenced to the penitentiary for not
less than one nor more than eight years, and be
disqualified from voting and holding office.

Sec. 24. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to make valid the acts of the Burgess
and Commissioners of Middletown, Frederick
county, Maryland, in levying a tax to pay the
requisition made by General Early upon the
citizens of said town, in July eighteen hundred
and sixty-four, and to authorize the collection
of the same.

Levy legalized
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the levy made by the Bur-
gees and Commissioners of Middletown, Frederick
county, Maryland, to pay the amount of fifteen
hundred dollars assessed upon said town by
General Early, in July eighteen hundred and
sixty-four, be and the same is hereby legalized
and the corporate authorities are authorised to
collect said tax from the citizens of the town as all
other corporation taxes are collected by them.
