AN ACT to add additional sections to the fourth
Article of the Code of Public Local Laws, in
relation to Horses and Carriages kept at Livery,
in the city of Baltimore.

Sections added
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the following sections be
and they are hereby added to the fourth Article,
of the Code of Public Local Laws, and be annexed
under a separate title, as "Horses and Carriages
at Livery," as follows :

May retain
in custody.
|
1. It shall be lawful for any livery stable keeper
to retain in his custody, any horse, mare or
gelding, placed under his care for livery, and also
any vehicle, until all charges for so keeping shall
have been paid by the owner or owners thereof.
|
Lawful to sell.
|
2. It shall and may be lawful for such livery
stable keeper, to sell any such horse, mare or
gelding, or vehicle, at public auction, in the city
of Baltimore, after giving at least twenty days
notice in two of the daily newspapers published
in the city of Baltimore, of the time, place and
manner of sale, and after deducting the amount
due for keeping, together with all expenses of
said sale, to return the surplus, if any, to the
owner of such horse, mare or gelding, or vehicle.

be stated.

3. Before proceeding as above, it shall be neces-
sary for such livery stable keeper to state an
account for the keeping of such horse, mare or
gelding, or vehicle, and prove the same before a
Justice of the Peace, for the city of Baltimore,
who upon being satisfied by proof of demand and
