One of Baltimore's Foremost Citizens
Bishop John Hurst of the A. M. E.
Church, who spent five weeks this
year visiting his birthplace in Haiti.
He found the natives there suffering
under the rule of the U. S. Marines,
who have taken their land and ports.
Bishop Hurst advocates sending col-
ored troops to Haiti to replace mar-
ines; appointment of a colored com-
mission to Haiti and gradual restora-
tion of Haitian sovereignty.

Is one of Baltimore's leading citi-
zens. Is president of the Y. W. C. A.
and was the first woman to start work
in the World War activities. Was
founder and organizer of the Woman's
Patriotic League, from which the
Maryland Council of Defense was an
outgrowth.
Mayor Broening appointed her
chairwoman of the War Memorial
Committee. She was selected to pre-
sent to Mayor Broening the pick with
which ground was broken for the mil-
lion dollar Colored High School.

Supervisor of Class 1 and 2 substi-
tutes of the Public Schools. Miss
Bright's efficient work in the past has
recommended her for the important
post which she now holds.
