MRS. LAURA BRUCE GLENN

District Visitor of the Associated Charities and Prominent Society Lady
of Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Laura Bruce Glenn, though a native Washingtonian, completed her
high school work in the public school of Chicago, and graduated from the Peda-
gogical Department of Howard University in 1901. For three years she taught
in the University and in 1907 married Mr. A. H. Glenn, head of the Department
of Languages in the High Schools in the District of Columbia, and for many
years secretary of the Board of Examiners.

Mrs. Glenn served for a long time as volunteer friendly visitor for the Asso-
ciated Charities, having completed with credit a course offered by the Red Cross
Home Service Authorities of the District of Columbia. She was assigned as
associate visitor to the office of the Seventh District of the Associated Charities.
Not long after her assignment to this post the senior worker was withdrawn and
Mrs. Glenn was left in sole charge of the work of this district.

After the resignation of Dr. J. H. N. Waring, as superintendent of Camp
Pleasant, in 1907, for colored children, Mrs. Glenn was appointed to the position.

The colored population of Washington offers an immensely rich field for
practical and theoretical work along the lines of social service. Mrs. Glenn,
through her unusually efficient and sympathetic work, has demonstrated what the
possibilities are.
