888 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

vehicles from livery stable keepers in Harford County to go
a certain distance and using said horses or vehicles for
greater distance.

SECTION 1. If any person shall hire from any livery stable
keeper in Harford County any horse, mare, gelding or vehicle
of any description whatsoever to go to any certain place or any
certain distance, and shall secretly use said horse, mare, geld-
ing or vehicle for greater distance, or in going to some other
place than so hired, without promptly reporting and making
known such increased or additional use to said stable keeper,
and shall fail or refuse to immediately pay the said stable
keeper a reasonable compensation for the additional use of said
horse, mare, gelding or vehicle, which additional compensation
shall be rated in proportion to the increased distance and use,
such person shall, on conviction before any Justice of the Peace
of Harford County, forfeit and pay a fine of not less than five
dollars or more than twenty-five dollars, and upon failure or
refusal to pay said fine and costs, shall be committed by such
Justice of the Peace to the jail of Harford County for a period
not exceeding thirty days, and in case of conviction as afore-
said the accused shall have a right of appeal to the Circuit
Court for Harford County, upon entering recognizance with
surety to be approved by the Justice of the Peace, and in every
such case the appeal shall be taken within ten days after the
date of his conviction.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 68.

AN ACT to amend the Act passed at the January Session of
the General Assembly of Maryland, 1906, Chapter 799, enti-
tled "An Act to empower and direct the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Harford County to purchase fixtures for his office
and to make certain indexes of his papers or proceedings
therein, and to procure from the Commissioners of the Land
Office certain papers and proceedings affecting title to land
in Harford County," by adding two new sections thereto, to
follow immediately after Section 4, and to be numbered Sec-
tion 4A and Section 4e, providing for an accounting by said
Clerk of the surplus revenue of said office applicable to the
provisions of said Act.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Act passed at the January Session of the Gen-
