CHAPTER 601.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 20, 21, 22 and 23 of Chapter 495
of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of the Ses-
sion of 1898, entitled "An Act to repeal and re-enact with
amendments the charter of the town of Brunswick, in Fred-
erick county, as said charter was enacted by Chapter 577 of
the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at the
January Session of 1890, and amended by Chapter 520 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of 1894, and by Chapter 380
of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1896," and to re-enact
said Sections 20, 21, 22 and 23 of said Chapter 495 of the
Acts of 1898 with amendments, so as to read as follows:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary
land, That Sections 20, 21, 22 and 23 of Chapter 495 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of the Session of
1898, entitled "An Act to repeal and re-enact with amendments
the charter of the town of Brunswick, in Frederick county, as
said charter was enacted by Chapter 577 of the Acts of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland, passed at the January Session of
1890, and amended by Chapter 520 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1894 and by Chapter 380 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1896," be and the same are hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments, so as to read as follows:
20. Any person may appeal from the valuation made by the
assessor or assessors to the Council at their next regular meet-
ing, and such Council shall remain in session as long as may
be necessary to hear and determine such appeals, and shall give
reasonable notice of such meeting, and may abate or increase
the assessment as may seem just.
2.1. Whenever the Council shall levy a tax they shall cause
to be made out an alphabetical list of all the persons to be
charged therewith, and shall cause to be affixed thereto the re-
spective sums to be collected from each person, and a warrant
to the bailiff or such other person as the Council shall desig-
nate, to collect the same.
22. The bailiff, or such other person appointed under the
preceding section by the Council, shall enforce the payment
of corporation taxes in the same manner and with like effect as
collectors of State and county taxes may enforce the payment
of State and county taxes, instead of proceeding by way of
distress for taxes in arrears. The bailiff or such other person
appointed by the Council to collect corporation taxes may, if
he deem it advisable, institute suits in the name of the Mayor
and Council of Brunswick against any delinquent before a
Justice of the Peace, or in the Circuit Court of Frederick
