one hundred dollars out of the taxes levied and collected for
roads in said county, to be applied by the said Town Commis-
sioners for corporate purposes.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 639.

AN ACT to authorize, empower and direct the County Commis-
sioners, of Dorchester County, in the State of Maryland, to
construct, own and operate a canal connecting the head-
waters of the little Blackwater River, in Dorchester County,
with the headwaters of Cambridge Creek, a branch of the
great Choptank River.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Dorchester County,
"in the State of Maryland, be and they are hereby authorized,
empowered and directed to construct, own and operate a canal
connecting the headwaters of" the little Blackwater River, in
Dorchester County, with the headwaters of Cambridge Creek,
a branch of the great Choptank River, so as to connect the
navigable waters of the little Blackwater River with the navig-
able waters of the great Choptank River at Cambridge Creek,
in Dorchester County, Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said County
Commissioners, for the purposes aforesaid, shall have full
power to determine upon the depth, course and width of the
said canal between the points aforesaid; provided, that the
said canal shall at no point be of a greater width than forty
feet and the said County Commissioners shall have full power
to contract and agree with the owners of land, over or through
which the said proposed canal shall run, for the right of way
for said canal, and to contract with such owners and with other
persons or corporations for materials, machinery, implements
and services of any and all kinds the use of which may be re-
quired in connection with the construction, maintenance or
operation of the said canal; the said County Commissioners
shall have full right, power and control of and over the con-
struction, operation and maintenance of the said canal; and
for said purposes the said County Commissioners shall have
and exercise all of the powers now had by the County Commis-
sioners over new public roads under the provisions of Section
90 of Article 25 of the Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
