522 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

visions of this Act, all game wardens, deputy game wardens,
constables and the Sheriff of Allegany County are hereby au-
thorized to arrest, without warrant, any person or persons,
firm or corporation suspected of violating the provisions of
this Act, and shall have the power to search for any birds or
animals suspected of being unlawfully taken, shot or unlaw-
fully in the possession of any person or persons, firm or cor-
poration, and to demand the opening of any box, game bag,
trunk, suitcase, barrel or receptacle of any house, room or
apartment for the purpose of enabling said officer to make
search fo'r birds and animals suspected of being unlawfully
killed or taken, and any person or persons, firm or corporation
who, upon the demand of said officer, refuses to open any such
apartment, house, room, box or receptacle of any kind owned
by him, or in his possession or control, to enable said officer to
make search as aforesaid, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than fifty
dollars nor more than one hundred dollars.

Sec. 17A. That if at any time during the open season it shall
be deemed advisable by the County Commissioners of Alle-
gany County to shorten the season during which the birds or
animals named in Sections 12, 13 and 14 of this Act may be
legally killed, herein called the "open season," or to close the
open season for the entire period of lawful shooting on account
of the scarcity of game, or for any other reason which they
may deem sufficient to warrant the closing or shortening of
said open season, they shall make a request upon the Governor
of the State of Maryland to so shorten or close entirely the
open season as they shall decide, and the Governor, if he con-
siders the circumstances warrant such closing or shortening
of said season, shall therefore, order the season shortened or
closed entirely as requested by the County Commissioners of
Allegany County, when such season is so shortened or closed,
shall give due notice thereof by an advertisement published in
at least two papers published in Allegany County, and at least
twice in each of said papers, the first notice to be published at
least two weeks before the date fixed by the Governor in his
proclamation for the closing of the season.

Sec. 18. Any person who shall shoot, kill or destroy, within
the limits of Allegany County, any fox, wild cat, hawk or hoot-
owl, shall be entitled to receive from the County Commission-
ers the followings sums of money, viz, for every wild cat the
sum of $2.00, for every fox the sum of $1.00, and for every hoot-
owl or hawk the sum of $.50.

Sec. 19. The person so killing, shooting or destroying any
such fox, wild cat, hawk or hoot-owl in order to secure the re-
