ing for the erection and maintenance of fire-escapes on all
public school buildings in Allegany county of two stories
and over.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Article 1 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Allegany County," be amended by adding thereto, under
the sub-title "Schools," to be designated 217a, providing for
the erection and maintenance of fire-escapes on all public
school buildings of two stories and over in Allegany county,
said additional section to read as follows:

217a. It shall be the duty of the Board of School Commis-
sioners for Allegany County to erect and maintain fire-escapes
on all public school buildings of two stories and over in Alle-
gany county, each of such buildings to have at least two fire-
escapes of safe, substantial and modern construction on oppo-
site sides of such buildings; the failure to comply with this
Act on the part of said School Commissioners to constitute
misfeasance in office, and, upon trial and conviction, the office
of said Commis-sioners shall be, by the Circuit Court for Alle-
gany County, declared vacant, and said Commissioners be re-
moved from their said office.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on the first day of January, in the year 1911.

CHAPTER 651.

AN ACT to compel owners of public buildings, except municipal
buildings, theatres, public halls, hotels of fifteen bedrooms or
more, in Allegany county, and of three stories and over in
height, to place fire escapes upon the same, and provide pen-
alties for the violations thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted ly the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That within six months after the passage of this Act all
owners of public buildings, except municipal buildings, the-
atres, public halls, hotels of fifteen bedrooms or more, and of
three stories or over, in Allegany county, shall place upon the
building fire escapes.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That any person convicted by a Jus-
tice of the Peace of Allegany county or by the Circuit Court for
Allegany county of violating the aforegoing section shall be
fined upon conviction thereof not less than ten dollars, nor
more than fifty dollars, for each day when such fire escapes
are not erected.
