JOINT RESOLUTIONS. 1457

Therefore, In order to better protect and improve the quan-
tity and quality of these products of the Potomac river,

Be it resolved by the Senate and House of Delegates of
Maryland, That a Joint Committee of both houses of the
General Assembly of Maryland be appointed, consisting of five
on the part of the Senate and seven on the part of the House of
Delegates, to confer with a similar committee from the General
Assembly of Virginia in the interest of improved legislation
for the better protection of fish and oysters in the Potomac
river.

And be it further resolved, That the chairman of the com-
mittee appointed by the President of the Senate send a copy of
these resolutions to the General Assembly of Virginia, request-
ing the appointment of a similar committee, and extending an
invitation to the committee so appointed from Virginia to visit
the State House at Annapolis for the purpose of conferring
with the Maryland committee, and to be the guest of the State
of Maryland while so visiting, and also to request immediate
action on the part of Virginia in the matter.

JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 4.

Whereas, The General Assembly has learned with profound
regret that the long, useful and honorable life of John Prentiss
Poe has recently ended; and

Whereas, For many years he was a distinguished and able
servant of the State;

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That in the
death of the Honorable John Prentiss Poe the State has
suffered the greatly deplored loss of one who, as a member of
the Senate of Maryland, as Attorney General of the State, as
the author of the Codes of 1888 and 1904, and of many Acts of
Assembly and other legal works; as a law officer of the City of
Baltimore, and in many ways as a private citizen, rendered to
the Commonwealth services of the highest value, with unre-
mitting energy and industry, great ability, learning and
acumen with stainless integrity and a lofty public spirit;

Resolved further, That a copy of this resolution be bound
with the Acts of the Assembly for the year 1910, and that a
copy thereof, properly engrossed and under the Great Seal, be
transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the family of
John Prentiss Poe.
