RESOLUTIONS.
JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1.
Whereas, The Honorable James Alfred Pearce, of Kent
County, was duly elected Chief Judge of the Second Judicial
Circuit of Maryland on the Tuesday after the first Monday in
November, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, for
the term of fifteen years from the time of his election and quali-
fication, and until his successor is duly elected and qualified,
or until he shall have attained the age of seventy years; and,
Whereas, The said Honorable James Alfred Pearce has,
since the time of his election and qualification aforesaid, dis-
charged his duties as Chief Judge of the Second Judicial
Circuit, and acted and is now acting as such Chief Judge, and
will, on the second day of April, nineteen hundred and ten,
if his life is prolonged, attain the age of seventy years, when
his term of office will expire unless it is extended by the
General Assembly of the State by resolution, pursuant to
Section 3 of Article 4 of the Constitution of the State; and,
Whereas, it is the desire and urgent wish of the members of
the bar of all the counties in said Judicial Circuit, and of the
citizens as well, that the term of the said Honorable James
Alfred Pearce, Chief Judge as aforesaid, be extended;
Therefore, The General Assembly, reposing the fullest confi-
dence in the ability, integrity, wisdom and sound legal knowl-
edge of the said Honorable James Alfred Pearce, and deeming
it compatible with the best public interest to extend his term
of service,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the term of service of the Honorable James Alfred Pearce,
Chief Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Maryland, be
extended until Tuesday after the first Monday in November,
in the year nineteen hundred and twelve, and until his suc-
cessor is elected and qualified.
