PRIVATE ACTS. 1407

to it by its members for loans on fee simple or leasehold prop-
erty, and also to act in a fiduciary capacity in all mortgages
for the benefit of its free shareholders who advance the money
or who hold the mortgage securities by purchase or otherwise,
and to generally do all acts deemed necessary for the proper
protection of the borrowing and investing member as a build-
ing or homestead association.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this corporation shall
be subject to all the laws made and provided with reference to
building and homestead associations of this State.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 289.

AN ACT to incorporate "The Deer Creek Electric and Power
Company.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

land, That J. Fred Crew, Hugh J. Jewett, Edward M. Allen,
James T. Jones, George E. Silver, Michael H. Fahey and D.

Gilpin Wilson, all of Harford County, in the State of Mary-
land, and their associates and successors be and they are
hereby created, constituted, incorporated and declared to be
a body politic and corporate under the name and style of
"The Deer Creek Electric and Power Company," and by that
name shall be known in law and shall have perpetual succes-
sion, may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and
be defended in all courts, whether in law or in equity; to have
and use a common seal, and alter and renew the same at
pleasure, and otherwise in all things to do, execute and perform
whatever any corporation or individual may, can or might law-
fully do, execute and perform; and make by-laws, rules and
regulations consistent with the existing laws of the State of
Maryland for the government of all under his authority, the
management of its estates and properties and the due. and

orderly conductof its business.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said company is hereby
authorized and empowered to supply the public, including
individuals, municipalities and corporations within the limits
of the State of Maryland, electric current for heating, lighting,
driving machinery, or for any other purpose whatsoever, for
which such current can or may be used, and to fix, charge and
collect and receive rates and tolls therefor; and for the pur-
pose of enabling the company to supply such power as afore-
said, said company is hereby authorized and empowered to
