deposited in some safe bank and shall only be drawn therefrom
on checks signed by the Mayor und countersigned by the sec-
retary and treasurer, and the said secretary and treasurer shall
keep in a book for the purpose a full registry of the bonds sold,
the different series, the number of bonds and the name of the
purchaser and amounts realized on sale and any transfers and
assignments of the same. The said funds shall be available for
the improvements of the public streets and ways of said town
and the extension of the water and lighting system thereof.
48Y. The Mayor and Council shall select in their discretion
some depository in which to deposit the money necessary for
the payment of the principal and interest of said bonds as the
same may mature and become due; provided that the said
Mayor and Council shall select by resolution said depository
before issuing said bonds and shall designate the same on the
said bonds and the coupons thereto attached.
SEC. Z. That the Mayor and Council of Berlin shall have
power to provide by ordinance for the establishment and change
from time to time of the grade lines of any street, lane, alley or
part thereof now or hereafter marked, located or laid out; to
provide by ordinance for grading, graveling, shelling, macada-
mizing, paving or curbing or any of them- or for regrading, re-
graveling, reshelling, remacadamizing, repaving and recurbing
or any of them of any street, lane or alley in said city or part
thereof now condemned, ceded, dedicated or opened as a public
highway or which may hereafter be condemned, ceded, dedi-
cated, opened, widened, straightened or altered according to
the laws and ordinance regulating same, and also for assessing
the cost of any such work not exceeding one-half the cost upon
any property binding upon such street, lane, alley or highway
or part thereof, according to the front foot rule of apportion-
ment of the cost of improvement or such other equitable basis
as it may determine, and for the collection of the said assess-
ment as other city taxes are collected or in such manner as it
may prescribe, either before or after the work shall have been
done. To provide by ordinance for grading, macadamizing,
paving or curbing or any of them or for regrading, regraveling,
reshelling, remacadamizing, repaving or recurbing or any of
them of any street, lane, alley or highway or part thereof in
said city, whenever the owners of a majority of the front feet
or property binding on such street, lane, alley or highway or
part thereof shall apply for the same, upon terms and under
conditions to be prescribed in said ordinance, and for the as-
sessment in any such case of the whole or any part of the costs
of such work pro rata according to the front foot rule of ap-
pointment of the cost of the improvements or such other equita-
ble basis upon all abutting property binding upon such street,
