such help, teams and implements as he may deem necessary for
the working, repairing and constructing of said roads and
bridges, to be paid for out of the levy made therefor as afore-
said by the County Commissioners. He shall have charge and
control of all teams, carts, wagons and other machinery and
implements which may be purchased for the use of said roads.
He shall not work out or expend on the roads or bridges of
said county a greater sum in any one fiscal year than the
amount levied by the County Commissioners for this purpose.
He shall appear before the commissioners at their first meet-
ing in each and every month and make a statement to them of
the work done and money expended... He shall examine and
certify to the correctness of all bills and accounts for any work
done or materials furnished for any of the public roads or
bridges in Somerset County before the same shall be paid, and
no payment shall be made until such accounts have been certi-
fied by him. He shall make out annually, in writing, a de-
tailed report of all work done on the county roads and bridges
for the year, together with the names of all persons working
on said roads and bridges, and the amount to which each per-
son is entitled for such work, and which he has certified as cor-
rect, which report shall be made before the first day of July
for the year ending on the first day of March, and in making
such report he shall be allowed the services of a stenographer
and typewriter, to be paid a sum not to exceed twenty-five dol-
lars for such service. Said County Road Engineer shall not be
interested in the business of any person, firm or corporation
from which anything shall be purchased for the use of said
roads or bridges, or receive any commissions on any purchase
so made.
SEC. 232. The County Road Engineer may appoint District
Road Supervisors, but not more than one Supervisor for any
precinct or district of Somerset County, who shall be paid such
wages or salary as said Road Engineer shall prescribe, and it
shall be the duty of said District Road Supervisor to take
charge of and manage the work on the public roads and bridges
in the district or precinct for which he is apppointed, subject
to the control and direction of the County Road Engineer, and
he shall perform such other duties as the County Road Engi-
neer may prescribe, and may be removed at any time by the
said County Road Engineer.
SEC. 233. Any person appointed under the provision of this
Act whose duty it shall be to keep accounts or make reports
who shall fail to do so, or who shall wilfully make any false re-
port or account, shall be liable to indictment by the Grand
Jury of Somerset County, and, if convicted in the Circuit
