of failure to elect at the Fourth Quarterly Conference, then
the Trustees shall hold over until their successors are elected,
which may be done at any subsequent Quarterly Conference of
the said church: That the object and purposes of the said Cor-
poration or Church are to promote and encourage religious wor-
ship in the Christian religion after the usages, doctrines and
discipline of the Methodist Episcopal Church of United
States of America, and subject thereto; and to promote and aid
such benevolent or charitable objects as are consistent with the
Laws of this State, and the laws, discipline and regulations of
the said Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States; and
for the purposes aforesaid, the said Body politic shall have the
power to receive grants, conveyances, devises, bequests and
gifts for the use and benefit of the ministry and membership of
the said Church and for benevolent objects as aforesaid; and
to sell, exchange or dispose of the same and reinvest the pro-
ceeds thereof in accordance with the Laws of the State of Mary-
land and the laws, discipline and regulations of the Methodist
Episcopal Church in United States, the proceeds of the said
sale or exchange to be reinvested and held in trust in the same
manner and to the same extent as the original gift, grant or
devise was held, due care to be used at all times for the proper
preserving of said trust, and executing the same in conformity
with the true intent and purposes thereof as aforesaid; that in
addition to such powers as are herein conferred, the said cor-
poration shall have all such powers as are conferred upon or
hereafter be conferred upon "Religious Corporations" under
and by virtue of the Laws of the State of Maryland.
SEC. 3. Be it further enacted, That the officers of this Cor-
poration are a President, a Vice-president and Secretary and
Treasurer, but the Secretary and Treasurer may be one and
the same person, or may be the Secretary and Treasurer respect-
ively, of the Official Board of the said Church.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act is declared
to be an emergency law and necessary for the immediate presei-
vation of the public safety and passed by a yea and nay vote,
supported by three-fifths of all the members elected to each of
the two Houses of the General Assembly, and the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
