new Sections to- be known as Sections 533-A—533-B—533-C
—and 533-D—to follow immediately after Section 533.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 533 and 534 of Article 16 of the Code of
Public Local Laws title "Montgomery County" sub-title
"Sheriff" be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enactea
together certain additional sections to be known as Sections
533-A—533-B—533-C—and 533-D—, to follow immediately
after Section 533 so as to read as follows:—
SEC. 533. The. Sheriff of Montgomery County shall receive an
annual salary of the sum of $2500, to be paid him in quarterly
installments of $625., by the County Commissioners of Mont-
gomery County and he shall be allowed the sum of $3,500 an-
nually, or so much thereof as the County Commissioners may
think proper, to be paid him by the said County Commissioners
in quarterly installments for the expense of his office, including
clerk and necessary deputies to assist him in the discharge of
his duties; and the said County Commissioners shall not pay said
Sheriff for any services he may render in the discharge of his
official duties any further or other compensation, and shall not
be liable in any way for any other fee or compensation what-
ever to said Sheriff than as above provided for the discharge of
his official duties, except as follows: For every execution of the
sentence of death by said Sheriff upon any person convicted of
a capital offense, they shall pay him the sum of $300, and for
carrying or conveying any person or persons under sentence to
any State or County institutions, to or from any jail of any
other County or the jail or station house of Baltimore Citv or to
or from any other place of confinement beyond the limits of
Montgomery County under sentence or order of any author-
ized authority the said County Commissioners shall pay the
said Sheriff his actual carfare or actual costs of transportation,
together with the actual costs of transportation of such person
carried or conveyed by him to or from the place above men-
tioned ; itemized bill for such expenses in all such cases shall be
presented under oath to said County Commissioners.
SEC. 533-A—. The Sheriff of Montgomery County shall col-
lect all fines, costs, charges or other monies which under the law
as it existed prior to the passage of this act it was his duty to
collect, and exercise all powers conferred upon him by law to
enforce the collection of the same and shall at the first meet-
ing of the County Commissioners held in the months of March,
