CHAPTER 253.

AN ACT to authorize and direct the Clerk of the Circuit Court
for Queen Anne's County, to make a Plaintiff's and De-
fendant's Index of all judgments rendered by the Circuit
Court for Queen Anne's County from the beginning of the
year 1894, and to provide means for his compensation for
making said Index.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Queen Anne's
County be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pro-
cure a book, similar to the Judgment Index now contained
in his office, known as and bearing the mark "Defendant's
Judgment Index No. 2, 1894," and to transcribe therein
all judgments indexed in the Judgment Index first mentioned
in such a manner as to make said Judgment Index hereby
directed to be procured an Index not only of Judgments
rendered against persons and corporations, but a Judgment
Index of all Judgments rendered in favor of all persons and
corporations; that is to say, not only shall the contents of saia
"Defendants Judgment Index No. 2, 1894," be transcribed,
but the names of all persons and corporations contained there-
in in whose favor Judgments have been recovered shall be
written alphabetically in said new book so as to form an index
of the names of Plaintiff's and, the book hereby directed to be
procured shall be marked with the words "Plaintiff's and
Defendant's Judgment Index 1894."

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners for Queen Anne's County be and they are hereby
required to levy on the assessable property of said County a
sum sufficient to pay for the book directed by Section 1 of this
act to be procured, and a further sum sufficient to pay said
Clerk one cent for each ten words or figures copied or written,
and five cents for each name, plaintiff and defendant indexed,
in said book.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the first day of June, in the year nineteen hundred
and eighteen.
