CHAPTER 227.

AN ACT to authorize the Governor of the State of Maryland
to appoint one hundred additional female notaries public for
Baltimore County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Governor of the State of Maryland, by and with
the advice and consent of the Senate, be and he is hereby
authorized to appoint and commission for Baltimore County
one hundred female notaries public, in addition to the number
now authorized by law.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this is an emergency law,
necessary for the safety of the public, and that as such it is
to take effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 10th, 1918.

CHAPTER 228.

AN ACT to establish a schedule of minimum salaries of ele-
mentary and high school teachers and principals, for Alle-
gany County, and to require the County Commissioners of
Allegany County to levy a sufficient sum of money annu-
ally to put the same in effect, and to pay the same to the
Board of Education of Allegany County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That no white teacher regularly employed in the public
schools of Allegany County shall receive a salary of less than
five hundred dollars ($500.00) per school year. Provided, if
such teacher holds a third-grade State certificate of the first
class and has taught three years in the public schools of Alle-
gany County, such teacher shall receive a salary of not less
than five hundred fifty dollars ($550.00) per school year.
Provided further, if such teacher holds a third-grade State
certificate of the first class and has taught five years in the
public schools of Allegany County, such teacher shall receive
a salary of not less than six hundred dollars ($600.00) per
school year. Provided further, if such teacher holds a third-
grade State certificate of the first class, and has taught eight
years in the public schools of Allegany County, such teacher
shall receive a salary of not less than six hundred fifty dollars
($650.00) per school year. Provided further, if such teacher
