Roads Fund, under the direction of the State Roads Commis-
sion of Maryland, as provided for by Chapter 225 of the Acts
of 1904, and subsequent amendments thereto, for which said
fund said Board of County Commissioners shall make appli-
cation at the proper time and in the proper form, in the con-
struction of a State Aid Road from La Plata to Riverside in
said Charles County, by way of Port Tobacco, McConchie,
Welcome, Hill Top, Ironside, Duncaster, Cross Roads, Gray-
ton and Nanjemoy, as the public road now runs, but reserving
to the Board of Road Commissioners of Charles County the
right to vary therefrom for the purpose of relocation and sav-
ing of grades; provided, however, the same general course is
followed; the said construction to begin at the end of that part
of the above mentioned road now completed and running west
from La Plata, and so much thereof to be built each year as the
funds provided for will permit, said construction to be lim-
ited to an average cost not to exceed seven thousand dollars
per mile, one-half of which is to be paid by the County and
one-half by the State, and to be built either by contract or by
the Board of Roads Commissioners of Charles County in con-
junction with, and under the direction of, the State Roads
Commission of Maryland, in the discretion of the Board of
Road Commissioners of Charles County, and within the limi-
tations as to costs as aforesaid. And in the event the State
Roads Commission will not consent to build, or cannot build,
the said road within the limitations herein provided, then the
said Board of Road Commissioners of Charles County are
hereby empowered and directed to build same as a purely
County road at an average cost of thirty-five hundred dollars
per mile, for said entire route; and the said County Commis-
sioners of Charles County are hereby authorized and directed,
immediately after the passage of this Act, to make application
to the State Roads Commission of Maryland, for the sum of
ten thousand dollars out of the State Aid Fund allotted to
Charles County for the years 1918, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922
and 1923, to be expended as aforesaid upon the road from La
Plata to Riverside; and the balance of the money hereinbefore
provided to be levied shall be held by the Treasurer of Charles
County, subject to the order of the Board of Road Commis-
sioners of said Charles County, to be by them expended in the
construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of the
public roads and bridges of said Charles County, exclusive of
