dollars, then in such case the said Board shall not be required to
advertise for bids, but is authorized to have the work done and
to procure the said supplies by private contract. In such event
the contract shall be based upon specifications prepared by the
State Librarian, and its terms shall conform to the require-
ments of the succeeding Sections; and such contractor shall give
bond to the State, with surety and penalty satisfactory to the
Board of Public Works, for the due, prompt and faithful com-
pliance with said contract.
SEC 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from and after June 1, 1918.

CHAPTER 77.
An ACT to authorize and provide for the general indexing of
the Land Records of Somerset County, from the year 1665
to the year 1876, according to the most approved modern sys-
tem in vogue.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by tine General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Somerset County
be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to make a general
index of the Land Records of Somerset County from the be-
ginning of said Land Records, in the year 1665, in said county,
to the year 1876, according to the most approved system now in
vogue, of which the said Clerk shall be the sole judge.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Somerset County be, and he is hereby authorized and
directed to let on contract the execution of the work of indexing
as aforementioned, as a whole, subject to the approval of the
resident Judge of the Circuit Court for Somerset County; pro-
vided that the work shall be done expeditiously, and that the
plan adopted be chosen with that end in view.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Somerset County be, and they are hereby authorized and re-
quired to levy upon the assessable property of said County, in
the manner provided by law, a sum sufficient to pay for said
indexing.
