Street in the City of Cumberland, and any other street or
alleys which lie between King Street on the North, Federal
Street on the South, Boundary Lane on the East and Canal
Street on the West in said City, and to empower Commis-
sioners to award compensation to any person or persons own-
ing property on said public streets or alleys, which may be
closed, who may be affected thereby.

WHEREAS, the N. & G. Taylor Company, the largest employer
of skilled labor in the City of Cumberland, has bought all of
the property lying between the streets and alleys aforesaid in
order to provide sufficient ground on which to erect additional
factories.

AND WHEREAS, said portions of King Street, Boundary Lane,
Trenton Avenue, Canal Street and alleys within said territory
will no longer be needed for the use of the public, but will be
occupied by the factories of the said N. & G. Taylor Company;
Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland be and
they are hereby authorized and empowered to close that part
of King Street between the East side of Boundary Lane, and
the West side of Canal Street, and that part of Trenton Avenue
between King Street and Federal Street, and that part of
Boundary Lane between King Street and Federal Street, and
any other parts of public alleys lying between King Street on
the North, Federal Street on the South, Boundary Lane on the
East and Canal Street on the West in the City of Cumberland,
and to provide for ascertaining whether any and what amount
in value of damages will be caused thereby to the owner or
possessor of any property lying on or through which said
streets or alley-ways may pass, which ought to be compensated,
by the appointment of commissioners to assess the same as
provided in Section 66, of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, entitled "Allegany County. " sub-title
"Cumberland'' and from time to time to enact all necessary
ordinances in the exercise of the powers granted by this sec-
tion; provided that before said Mayor and City Council of
Cumberland shall proceed to execute any of the powers vested
in them by this section, at least thirty days notice shall be
given of any such application which may be made for the pas-
sage of any such ordinance by advertisement in at least two
newspapers printed in the City of Cumberland, and by personal
notice in writing served twenty days before upon each property
