968 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Building Committee
be and they are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to sell
the lot or lots or building, or the building only, as now used
for school purposes, and use the money to purchase other lot or
lots or to help erect said new school building, and shall, as
speedily as possible, if for any reason it is not deemed by them
expedient to erect said school house on the site of the present
school house of the village of Brentwood, purchase a lot or lots,
and procure and adopt a plan and specifications for the erec-
tion of said school house; and when adopted, said Committee
shall invite sealed proposals by advertisements, for a reasonable
time, for the erection of said school building, which proposals
shall be sent in sealed envelopes in care of the School Super-
intendent of Prince George's county, addressed to the said
Committee, and shall be publicly opened on a day and at the
hour named in said advertisements j said proposals setting
forth the amount of money for which the parties proposing will
complete the building according to the specifications and plans
and the time or times at which payment therefor shall be
made, and the time when said building shall be completed; and
the said Building Committee shall award the contract to the
lowest responsible bidder upon such bidder giving bond to
the Board of County School Commissioners in such penalty as
said Committee shall determine, conditioned for the faithful
performance of the contract entered into. The Building Com-
mittee is hereby required to employ one or more competent
architects, under whose control and supervision as to material
and workmanship such building shall be erected; the Building
Committee shall also select proper furniture for the use of said
public school house, as well as determine the best method
of keeping the school, having due regard for the safety and
health of the pupils attending there, and shall at such times
as it may deem proper, advertise for such furniture and heat-
ing plant, and shall award the contract or contracts to the
lowest responsible bidder or bidders.

SEC, 4. And be it enacted, That when said Committee shall
have contracted for the erection of said school building and the
furnishing and heating thereof, it shall report the same to the
Board of County School Commissioners, with the terms and
conditions of such contract, and they shall also report the costs
and expenses incurred and paid from time to time.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That for the purpose of paying
for said lot or lots and for the erection and furnishing of said
public school building, the School Commissioners for Prince
George's county are hereby authorized and directed to borrow,
on the endorsement of the County Commissioners of Prince
