extra constable or constables, and when so appointed the ser-
vices of said constable or constables shall be paid for by the in-
dividual, contractor, company or corporation carrying on opera-
tions or work rendering necessary the appointment of same;
the amount per diem to be paid for services, and when and to
whom to be paid to be determined by the County Commissioners
aforesaid, and on failure to pay for the services aforesaid suit
may be maintained at any time by the County Commissioners in
the Circuit Court of the county or before any justice of the
peace thereof in the name of such constable after failure of the
designated individual, contractor, company or corporation to
pay the order or warrant given by said Commissioners for ser-
vices.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 258.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments sections 124
and 125 of article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title
"Howard County," sub-title "Sheriff," and to repeal sections
126 and 127 of article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws,
title "Howard County," sub-title "Sheriff."
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That sections 124 and 125 of article 14 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Howard County," sub-title "Sheriff,"
be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted with amend-
ments, and that sections 126 and 127 of article 14 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Howard County," sub-title "Sheriff,"
be and the same are hereby repealed.
124. The sheriff of Howard county shall receive an annual
salary of fifteen hundred dollars from and after the first day of
May, , to be paid him in quarterly instalments of three
hundred and seventy-five dollars by the County Commissioners
of Howard county, and he shall be allowed six hundred dollars
annually, to be paid him by the said County Commissioners, in
quarterly instalments, for the expenses of his office, including
one chief deputy and the necessary deputies to assist him in the
discharge of his duties; he shall collect all fees and charges to
which he may be entitled by law, and exercise all powers con-
