levy in their levy of 1908 and annually thereafter, on the assess-
able property in said county, the amount of money necessary
to pay said appropriation.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 86.
AN ACT to add five new sections to article 13 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Harford County," sub-title "Cir-
cuit Court," to follow after section 53 and to be designated
sections 53A, 53B, 53C, 53D and 53B, authorizing the appoint-
of a stenographic clerk to the grand jury, and defining his
duties and obligations and pay.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That five additional section be added to article 13 of the
Code of Public Local Laws, title "Harford County," sub-title
"Circuit Court," to follow after section 53, and to be designated
as sections 53A, 53B, 53C, 53D and 53E, authorizing the appoint-
ment of a stenographic clerk to the grand jury, and defining his
duties, obligations and pay, and to read as follows:
SEC. 53A. Upon the organization of each and every grand
jury as now provided by law, and at the request of said grand
jury, signified in writing to the judge or judges of the Cir-
cuit Court, the said judge or judges are authorized and em-
powered to appoint a clerk, who shall be a competent stenogra-
pher, who shall be subject to such rules and orders as shall be
made and passed by the Circuit Court, and said clerk, if so
directed and required, so to do, and not otherwise, shall have
authority to be present at all sessions of said grand jury and
shall take and transcribe the testimony given before such grand
jury, and whenever desired by the State's Attorney, shall
attend upon and take and transcribe the testimony given at the
coroner's inquest, and all testimony so taken and transcribed
shall be for the exclusive use of the grand jury and the State's
Attorney of said county, unless otherwise ordered by the Cir-
cuit Court.
SEC. 53B. The person so appointed clerk, before entering
upon the duties of such office, shall -take and subscribe before
the clerk of the Circuit Court an oath that he will keep secret
all matters and things occurring before said grand jury, or in
such form as the Circuit Court may order and require.
