year, and shall be levied for and paid by the County Commis-
sioners of Garrett county in monthly instalments.

SEC. 4A. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Garrett county shall allow the sheriff of Garrett county the
sum of three hundred dollars per year for a cook to the jail,
which sum shall be paid in monthly instalments to the sheriff.

And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect from the
date of its passage.

CHAPTER 538.

AN ACT to provide for the appropriation by the County Com-
missioners of Harford county of a sum of money towards the
maintenance of a bridge for foot passengers and vehicular
traffic across the Susquehanna river, between the city of
Havre de Grace and the town of Perryville.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Harford county be
and they are hereby authorized, in their discretion thereof, to
pay to the Havre de Grace and Perryville Bridge Company of
Harford county, on or before the first day of September in
each year, the sum of five hundred dollars (|500.00), towards
the maintenance of a bridge for foot passengers and vehicular
traffic across the Susquehanna river, between the city of Havre
de Grace and the town of Perryville, said payments to begin
as soon as said bridge is opened for such traffic, and to be
payable to said corporation, or to such other person or persons
or corporation, as may own and operate said bridge; and the
said Commissioners may, in their discretion, provide for and
