notice required for entering upon lands, either for the con-
demnation of the same for outlets and watercourses, or for con-
demning land for obtaining gravel thereout of, or for con-
demning such quantity of gravel as may be needed thereout of,
shall be in no event less than ten days, and only such time in
excess of that, if any, as the examiners may see fit to give.
160c. The County Commissioners of Charles county shall
levy annually on the assessable property of the county, for the
use of the roads and bridges of the county, a sum of money not
less than eight thousand dollars nor more than twelve thousand
dollars; but for the levy of 1908 and 1909 they shall levy at least
the sum of ten thousand dollars. The said Road Commis-
sioners shall at their first meeting elect one of their number
as president of the board who shall act as such during his entire
term unless otherwise ordered by action of the board at a
regular meeting or any meeting called for the purpose, and the
engineer herein provided for shall act as secretary to the board;
and all contracts signed by the president as such, and the said
engineer as secretary, shall be considered as the act of the
board unless it shall otherwise appear. No money shall be paid
out of the funds provided for the purposes of this Act for the
traveling expenses or other expenses of the Road Commis-
sioners; provided, however, that the actual expenditures for
traveling by any one of said commissioners when engaged out-
side of his home district or for going outside of the county,
to the extent and to the extent only that such expenditure
shall be approved upon proper vouchers presented by the County
Commissioners, may be allowed, not exceeding in any case more
than twenty-five dollars for any expenditures in the county, nor
more than fifty dollars for any expenditures outside of the
county, and in the county, and no expenses for traveling pur-
poses of any kind shall be allowed to said engineer except to
the extent that he may be ordered to go out of the county and
then only for such expenditures as may upon proper vouchers
be approved and ordered by a vote entered upon the minutes
of the Road Commissioners, not to exceed in any event more
than fifty dollars. And it is further provided that the limita-
tion of the number of supervisors herein set forth shall not
prevent the aforesaid Road Commissioners from employing
extra supervisors or laborers in work needed upon any new
road which may have been or shall hereafter be opened in ac-
cordance with law by the County Commissioners of the county,
which power of opening new roads is reserved in the County
Commissioners as under existing law, to be paid for out of
funds other than those set aside for the purpose of this Act.
And it is further herein provided that in any proceeding for the
