but may, in their discretion, pay it from the general fund pro-
vided for highways or out of their contingent fund.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That the. fund arising from the
sale of the bonds for the permanent improvements of the pub-
lic highways shall be apportioned to the several election dis-
tricts of said county, in proportion to the sums heretofore spent
in the care and repair of the roads of the said respective dis-
tricts. The roads to be first improved shall be those leading to
the most important towns, the railway or navigation centers of
each district, which roads shall be determined on by the Board
of County Commissioners and said auxiliary board as provided
by section 10 of this Act.

CHARLES COUNTY.

CHAPTER 519.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments section 3 of
chapter 406 of the Acts of 1904, entitled "An Act to authorize
the County Commissioners of Charles county to issue bonds
for the purpose of refunding the bonded indebtedness of said
county accruing under section 6 of chapter 546 of the Acts of
1894, known as courthouse bonds, and to levy and to collect
the necessary taxes for the payment of said bonds, and inter-
est thereon."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 3 of chapter 406 of the Acts of 1904, entitled
"An Act to authorize the County Commissioners of Charles
county to issue bonds for the purpose of refunding the bonded
indebtedness of said county, accruing under section 6 of chap-
ter 546 of the. Acts of 1894, known as courthouse bonds, and
to levy and to collect the necessary taxes for the payment of
said bonds and interest thereon," be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as fol-
lows:

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said County Commis-
sioners are hereby authorized and required to sell said bonds to
the best advantage, at public sale, at such times and upon such
notice as they may deem expedient; provided, however, that
they shall not sell any of the bonds authorized to be issued
